Foro de Escritores (FDE)

Title:
Soundtable

Foro de Escritores (FDE) is a workshop of experimental poetry and a small press. It was founded in December 2003, in Santiago, Chile, inspired in the spirit of Bob Cobbing’s Writers Forum of London. FDE is open to any style of poetry that explores contents and forms, from sonnets to performances, including visual and sound works, music and installations. The sessions of the workshop are free and open to everyone. In them the poets read, show, play or perform their work in slots of five to ten minutes, while the rest listen and watch in silence. FDE is a space to learn from what other artists do, and not necessarily from what they say. Voices: Andrés Anwandter, Anamaría Briede, Kurt Folch and Martín Gubbins. Remix: Felipe Cussen. All these artists are Chilean, in their early or mid thirties, and collaborate permanently with the Foro de Escritores. All of them have published books of poetry. Some are also painters, musicians or lecturers. Apart from publishing poetry, they have participated in several readings, exhibitions and performances in South America and Europe. Among many others, they have performed at L’Espace Kyron in Paris; Birkbeck College, University of London; The Klinker, the poetry and music cabaret run by Hugh Metcalfe in London; the Sound Art Bienal held at the Museo Nacional de Bellas Artes in 2005, as well as at the New Media Bienal held at the Museo de Arte Contemporáneo in the same year, both the most important public museums in Santiago. FDE publishes some of the works performed in the workshop under the Colección Foro de Escritores, which has issued nine titles so far. The books are handmade and published in limited editions of 100 numbered copies; some of them also include CDs and/or DVDs.
