Ensamble Majamama
Interview for SIP – SoundLAB Interview project
Founded in 2004, Ensamble Majamama is group collective working around two main subjects: improvisation and electroacoustics. From this standpoint the members of EM their research on some other subjects: the use of obsolete devices (pick-ups, turntables, cassette players, radios, etc.), feedback circuits, the tension between the analog obsolescence and the ever-new capital modernity of the digital, the collision of various contemporary and modern aesthetics and technics (collage, montage, plunderphonics, noise, electroacoustics, etc.). This research is not only musical or sound based, it’s a subversive intent to read our Chilean (and Latinoamerican) socio-cultural reality in the aforementioned subjects, not in an avantgarde manner (impossible a world as it is today), but in a critical and divergent way.
EM are Raúl DÃaz, Francisco Papas, Edén Carrasco, Ignacio Morales y Nicolás Carrasco.
