Justin Randolph Thompson is a Florence, Italy based sculptor and new media artist born in Peekskill, NY in ’79. He has lived in Italy, since 2001. Thompson’s work investigates crossroads between ancient Italian references and contemporary African-American cultural expressions. His work encompasses sculpture, digital animation, sound art, ritual based performances and video installation. Thompson was a recipient of the Jerome Fellowship at Franconia Sculpture Park in 2008 and a resident at the Taller of Jannis Kounellis at the Fundacion Marcelino Botin in Santander, Spain in 2009. A feature titled Justin Randolph Thompson Shrines and Found History was published in the May 09’ issue of Sculpture magazine.
