Juan Manuel Ruiz was born in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria (Canary Island-Spain, 1968) He studied composition and classical guitar at the Conservatorio Superior de Música de Las Palmas, with Juan José Falcón Sanabria, and at the Real Conservatorio Superior de Música of Madrid with Valentín Ruiz, Agustín González Acilu, and specific courses with Leo Brouwer, Adolfo Núñez, Salvatore Sciarrino and Brian Fernyhough.
He has composed works for solo intruments, chamber music and orchestra. His works has been played in diferents music festivals: Auditorio Alfredo Kraus, in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, Teatro Real, Circulo de Bellas Artes, Fundación Juan March and Auditorio Conde Duque, in Madrid, on the III, IV and V Festival de Música Contemporánea de Madrid (COMA 2001, 2002 y 2003), IV Festival de Música Contemporánea “Auditorio Tres Cantos”, in Madrid, and XIII Festival Internacional de Guitarra of Canarias 2003, by international figures like Eduardo Fernández, Gabriel Estarellas, Manuel Escalante, Duncan Gifford, “The Frank Stadler Quartet” from Salzburg, and the Gran Canaria Filarmonic Orchestra.
Major Works: “Travesía sonora (2003)”, for guitar and orchestra, “Balcánicas (1999)” for orquestra, “Eón (2001)” for string orquestra, “Fantasía Fremore (2001)” for piano solo, “String Quartet nº1, Dies Irae (1999).
