Lily Xiying Yang and Honglei Li are new media artists from Beijing, currently based in New York City. Since 2005, they have been working under a collective name Lily & Honglei. Their creativity aims to develop new artistic expressions through integrating traditional art forms such as painting and Chinese folk art with digital language, which critique current global culture and society.
Lily & Honglei’s solo exhibitions have been held in China, Germany, United States and Australia. They actively engage in a wide range of new media art events, including FILE – Electronic Language International Festival in Brazil; 404 international festival of electronic art at Florence, Italy; Boston Cyberarts 10th Festival; Eyebeam Art + Technology Center at Chelsea, New York; “Art & Communication” in Museum of Ara Pacis at Rome, Italy; “@” exhibition curated by New Media Caucus at the National CAA 2009; Athens Video Art Festival; ImageRadio 2008 New Media Festival in Netherlands; FAD Festival de Arte Digital in Brazil; SIGGRAPH Art Gallery in LA; Digital Arts + New Media exhibition at Duo Multicultural Art Center at East Village NYC; “Virtual Art” exhibition invited by NY Arts Magazine at Broadway Gallery NYC, among many others. Lily & Honglei’s lectures, penal discussions and conferences include “Navigating Cyber Worlds: Creative Practice in Virtual Reality” panel discussion hosted by Boston Cyberarts 2009 at Boston University, presentation at Center for Advanced Visual Studies in MIT, lecture “DSL Collection + DSL Cyber MoCA” at Steinhardt School in New York University, etc.
Lily & Honglei both studied fine arts in China and continued their education in art in America. From University of Massachusetts Dartmouth, Lily received Master of Fine Arts in Digital Media, while Honglei earned his Master of Fine Arts degree in Painting. They also teach art as lecturers in college in Boston.
