was born and grew up in a fishing town on Vancouver Island’s south coast. After spending five consecutive summers commercial fishing on her father’s boat, trolling the northern waters of British Columbia, Karen returned to school to finish her BFA at the University of Victoria. It was here that her interests turned from painting to photography. Continuing her formal studies lead her to New York where she completed her MFA from Hunter College in 1995.
In 1999 Karen purchased a second hand computer and began the transition from the darkroom to PhotoShop. Within the following year she had begun her first website project, holidayinhope.com, a fictional fishing village on the web, which continues to develop and grow.
Karen has exhibited in Canada, the U.S., and Syria as well as online.
