Karl J Mendonca lived in Bombay, India for 25 years before moving to New York in January 2005. He has a Masters degree in Film and Media Studies from The New School, NY as well as a graduate degree in English Literature from the University of Bombay. Karl has been producing work in film, video and interactive media at that explores the intersection between urban spaces and psycho-geography, virtual communities and national identity, and public art and civic engagement. Document Project, an interactive storytelling kiosk developed in collaboration with Charles Yust and Marcus Pingel, was presented at the MIT5 conference and the Critical Themes in Media Studies conference at The New School in 2007. Karl has also shown work at the Queens Museum of Art, the Pure Project gallery, NY, Swing Space at the Lower Manhattan Cultural Council and Washington Square Park, among other venues.
Karl is presently an adjunct faculty member at Eugene Lang and teaches hybrid courses on media theory and production at the Culture and Media Studies Department.
