Koichi Shimizu is a sound and multimedia artist and also event organizer located in Bangkok Thailand. Born in Japan 1972, studied sound engineering in New York from 1991 to 1993. Shimizu moved to Bangkok in 2003.
Shimizu has vast range of work he’s been involved with, which include music composition for TV commercials, sound design and music score for films, multimedia art installation, live performance, sound engineering, Producing bands and organizing music event.
As a sound designer and music composer for film, Shimizu has worked with 2 international award winner directors, Pen-ek Ratanaruang and Apichatpong Weerasethakul, film include Pen-ek’s Invisible Waves, Twelve Twenty, Total Bangkok (short documentary film for Nike), Ploy and Apichatpong’s Syndromes and a Century. Shimizu often use sound from nature and our daily life and create atmospheric drone sound. These sounds are quietly blended into film and create unique atmosphere. His latest work is Aditya Assarat’s new film called Wonderful Town, The film Just won the VPRO Tiger Award from the 37th Rotterdam International Film Festival 2008, Netherlands.
