“Some Eastern philosophers believed that performance is a shadow, mostly because it never is the truth, but I am willing to cast my shadow upon people who are looking at the ground in order to illuminate the fact that there will always be the sun shining above them, art always reflects the truth.â€Wiracha Daochai is a Performance Art Worker. He usually brings controversy into his performance as he feels it is the best way to examine the fallacy in the truth.
His art is created out of the groundings of Eastern and Western’s philosophy in order to retreat to the innermost part of the human minds. Audiences are not part of the situations he created but of own circumstances. Their roles are not mere observers but essential elements of his live art. It is the process of knowing, not seeing; the mutual journey of both the performer and his audiences in order to experience his art completely. He spent his childhood as a monk for 8 years and had worked as a writer, a lyric-composer, and a creative and content provider in Bangkok, Thailand.
Wiracha Daochai is now studying MA Performance Making at Goldsmiths, University of London.
