Ruth Catlow
I am an Internet artist and co founder and director of furtherfield.org with Marc Garrett.
I work with digital and networked media in public spaces and on the Internet. I like to work with ‘accidental’ audiences for my projects as well as those with an established interest in net art. Projects often connect with specific groups of people in a distinct condition or environment i.e. on their way to work, doing the shopping, playing games etc. Or they intersect unexpectedly with dominant and pre established communication genres in the mass media such as news, games or pornography on the web. I work with the tension between structure and emotion on the web and in wider society. This involves intersecting
subjective interior narratives with information rooted in social information machinery.
In recent Furtherfield projects (Skin/Strip Online http://www.skinstrip.net/ and FurtherStudio
http://www.furtherfield.org/furtherstudio), I have worked in a small team, alongside artist programmer, Neil Jenkins. These projects create live, real-time, collaborative artworks documenting interaction and communication between artists and audiences online. Success is measured by the technical and conceptual accessibility of the project to a wide audience.
I currently work as Associate Senior lecturer in Constructed and Virtual Environments at Ravensbourne College of Design and Communication, UK
