Was born in Buenos Aires, Argentina in 1973. Electroacoustic composer, sound artist and trumpet player. Kaplan works with concrete and environmental sounds into musical compositions, sound installations and live performances. He has a long standing interest in interdisciplinary projects, and as a result, he has composed music for visual artists like Jennifer Allora and Guillermo Calzadilla; choreographer Nicole Bindler (Philadelphia New Music and Dance Ensemble) and text-sound compositions, featuring poet and dancer Ly Thanh Tiên.

As a trumpet player he has developed an original instrumental language that incorporates extended techniques and a strong influence from electronic music. During the years, he has collaborated with many experimental musicians, like Michel Doneda, Axel Dörner, Nmpering (Bhob Rainey and Greg Kelley), Günter Müller, Xavier Charles, Silo trio (w/Nate Wooley and Audrey Chen), Norbert Möslang, Tatsuya Nakatani, Lê Quan Ninh, Jason Kahn and No Spaghetti Edition (Ivar Grydeland and Ingar Zach) between many others.

Leonel Kaplan was artist in residency at Art Omi (New York) and the Groupe de Musique Electroacoustique d’Albi-Tarn (France), and he has presented his works in places like the Renaissance Society (Chicago), the Musée d’art Modern et Contemporain d’Strasbourg (France), the Art Gallery Zedebois (Lisbon), the Issue Project Room (New York), and DNK (Amsterdam) between others. He has participated in many international festivals all around Europe, USA and South America: High Zero (USA), Musiques Enclassables de Parthenay NPAI (France), Musique et Quotidiane Sonore (France), Escucha! (Spain), Minim (Spain), All Improvista (France), No Spaghetti Edition (Argentina).
