Somaya Langley
Somaya Langley is a sound and new media artist (http://criticalsenses.com/). Her work has been presented in festivals nationally including Liquid Architecture 6, Electrofringe, Make it Now, the Totally Huge New Music Festival, the Melbourne Fringe Festival and Skylounge 2004. Her works have also been aired on ABC Radio’s New Music Australia program, The Sound Lab on Triple J, and FBi Radio and various community radio stations. She is a member of the sensor based trio, HyperSense Complex and co-presents a radio show, SubSequence, broadcast across the Australian Community Radio Network. Somaya has recently completed commissions for the National Film and Sound Archive’s Ten Minutes of Passion, and an Experimenta New Visions commission. In 2004 she received funding support for two sound installation works through ArtsACT and the Australia Council for the Arts bUzz initiative. Current projects include Liminal funded by ArtsACT in collaboration with media artist, David McDowell and a sensor-based performance experience for the Australian Network for the Art and Technology’s 2005 New Media Lab, Create Space. She is Web Audio Analyst at the National Library of Australia and is currently occupying the position of the National Library’s Digital Preservations Officer. Her work at the National Library of Australia has included the development of Music Australia (musicaustralia.org) and the Digital Collections (nla.gov.au/digicoll/).
