Shirley Wegner is a New York based artist, born in Tel Aviv, Israel. She is currently the recipient of the Atelier Stipendium of the city of Monchengladbach, Germany for 2006. She graduated from Hamidrasha Art Teachers College in 1994 and in 1997 moved to New York City. In 2002 She received her MFA in Painting from Yale University and was awarded the Ely Harwood Schless Memorial Prize for Excellence.
In 2006-2007 Wegner will have a one-person show at The Biz Centrum Museum in Monchengladbach and at Nacpool Gallery in Vienna. Her work was exhibited both internationally and in the USA, among others at The Tel Aviv Museum of Art (Land of Shadow 2002, Affirmative Action 2003, and Young Israeli Artists, from The Collection of The Museum, 2003), at The Society of Contemporary Photography, Kansas City, MO, 2003, at B.K. Smith Gallery in Cleveland OH 2004, and at LACE gallery in Los Angeles, CA (as part of High Desert Test Sites Radio, Joshua Tree, CA) and in Performa Radio 2005. In 2006 her work was featured in Do You Think I’m Disco? At Longwood Arts Projects Gallery, NY; Wandering exhibition at Makor gallery in New York; Seeing Elsewhere at Education Alliance Gallery, NY and in Home Base, a unique site-specific project affiliated with the Sotheby’s Israeli Art Week (ARTIS) in New York City. Her work is included in several private and public collections including The Tel Aviv Museum of Art.
