SIP – SoundLAB Interview

I am currently doing my Master’s degree in Literature, and have been composing in a variety of styles since my teenage years. I have worked in a broadly neo-classical format, pre-dominant influences being Mozart, Stravinsky, Ravel, Bartok, Copland among others – but increasingly, I have looked to electronic means for greater expressive freedom. I have often turned to the early electronic masters – Stockhausen, Robert Ashley – as my models. I have composed music for plays (literary works in general are a recurrent inspiration for me) and directed the choir of my former college (St. Stephen’s College, Delhi, India). I have sought guidance on my music from contemporary composers like Klarenz Barlow.
