SIP – SoundLAB Interview
Is a composer, performer and sound artist. He focuses on the sonic properties of architectural spaces, performative spaces, immaterial architectures, places and natural resorts.
Luca graduated with a Master in Sonic Arts from SARC (Sonic Art Research Centre) at the Queens University of Belfast. He worked on electro acoustic works, field recordings and sound installations, with a particular interest for movement, sensors and space as an element of composition.
He conducts research at De Montfort University in Leicester, UK, where he investigates the relation of sound to space in a context of sound art and acousmatic pieces.
Luca is an artist in residence at the Brain Mind Institute of EPFL, Lausanne.
This is part of the Swiss Artists in Lab program of 2009. The research is based on emotions, mental imagery, immaterial spaces and brain wave music.
In 2008 he was part of the Mamori Lab directed by Francisco Lopez in Amazonia for field recording exploration. A multi channel piece with the sound material will be performed in 2009 and 2010 (Europe, USA and Brazil).
During the FIH (International Theatre Festival of Belo Horizonte, Brazil, 2008) and part of Interaktionlabor.de, he explored the field of sound possibilities for digital performance, with independent media choreographer Johannes Birringer.
His last project 2 HUMANS & THE COSMOS is a work based on the interaction between live
musician and electronic music. The cellist Michael Kott is involved in opening a new channel
for his instrument. The record “Alien Love song, 2005” is the result of the exploration.
With Whitman McGowan (poet from San Francisco), a dynamic exchange from the writings to the music is created. From this collaboration exists a live recording called “Caught in the act, 2003” with concerts in Europe and USA.
His music was produced by Al Comet from the Swiss electronic music pioneers THE YOUNG GODS. The record was released on Universal music in 2001 and presented extensively around Europe.
